Media and Technology

Have you ever doubted the benefits we can get from technology? Oh, come on, the profits we can get from it are A+. Technology offers us the internet and through the internet we get to communicate easily with other people. So how does this reaching and contacting really work? If I am not mistaken, the word social networking is familiar to you. Well, I guess I’m right, knowing the fact that you’re reading my tumblr blog right now which is considered to be part of the “social internet world”.

Anyway, I would like to share a movie trailer which was already shown in the theaters a year ago. To watch the trailer, you can click the link above. The movie is called Cyberbully (stylized as Cyberbu//y), which revolves around a story of a girl being bullied through the use of the internet, through social networking. Well, I do know that you are aware of the fact that cyber bullying is in every corner of the internet, may it be shallow or deep. The widespread and easy access to rumors and all other kinds of damage to a person’s reputation with the use of social networking is unstoppable. Since we all have the freedom to post, write and comment what we want in the internet, sometimes, we tend to forget how it can affect other’s lives. Well, the movie showed bad effects of social networking sites and how these affected the lives of those who were bullied with the use of it. The internet is not such a bad thing, but if it is used irresponsibly, that’s where the problem comes out.

I was engrossed in watching the trailer, because it gives awareness to people on what is really happening in social sites. I was persuaded to watch the movie myself. This movie is really good and I admit that I really like it. I did not just like the film because of the good actors and actresses who portrayed the roles, but I like it, because it contains a deep message. The motion picture presented their promotion for anti-cyber bullying. Just like what I said earlier, this gives awareness to people. Even if it is only a movie, there is this hidden message they want us to know. It wants us to have a say, do some actions about and put an end to cyber bullying in social networking sites or any other websites on the internet. To sum it all up, this movie, even only with their trailer, is a very strong asset to the movement against cyber bullying.

Media and Body Image

Are you familiar about diet pills or tablets? Well, I kind of got intrigued about what help dietary supplements can give to me. Honestly, I tried some when I was in high school. Sad to say that nothing much has changed and I found out those products like Xenical is only considered as a support to your diet and without exercise, no successful results will come out. I came to drop by Xenical’s commercial which was aired in Philippine television. Maybe you have seen this yourself, but if you want watch it again, you can click the link and enjoy the show. I don’t have anything against this commercial of Xenical promoted by Ana Amigo-Antonio, Founder and Managing Director of Chocolate Clothing Co. To tell you the truth, I was inspired by it. Seeing her lose a lot of weight and fit in clothes that she likes, it makes me want to pursue again on my goal of being slim. She used the product Xenical in order to reach that kind of body, the sexy one. Her new slim body shown in the commercial doesn’t seem to offend other people since it only shows how she reached her goal of being able to fit in her clothes again with the aid of the supplement. I know that feeling when you get to wear smaller sizes of outfits you want and it seem to fit very well on you. The fact that you were able to buy and use what you want makes you feel successful. Well, that’s only my opinion. Some ladies and maybe some men actually had this “I can’t wear garments I want” crisis and self esteem issues about their body figure. Though the commercial shows how Ana transformed her body, this doesn’t seem to violate the confidence of people with their image and also, it doesn’t imply a better body figure. In fact, one can be inspired by this television advertisement in being able to try out attires you really love.

REBLOG PERMALINK Media and Race
Have you ever seen this ad of Belo Medical Group? Yes? No? Well, what are your thoughts about it? At first glance, this advertisement appears to be a common one, hence, just another cliché whitening poster. As I read through the message, I came to realize what the words really meant. I came to reflect on what they are trying to imply and how deep it is? Some may think that this ad is okay since it is just promoting a white skin which a lot of people stereotyped as the “best skin color”, though they don’t know and see what the real message is all about. I found this very disturbing since the thought I got from this poster is revolving around a global issue, racism.
“10% lighter. 100% more sosyal.” This short quote I read in the ad, even though it may not be on purpose, presented racial discrimination. My interpretation of this is that, “If you’re whiter, then you’re better.” We all know that skin whitening companies want to persuade us in buying their products, products that will make our skin glow more. There’s no malice about it, but advertisements giving emphasis, directly or indirectly, about the better or the best skin color is a whole lot of a different story. Yes, they just want us to go to the local store and grab some of their products to make us “better”, way better than the rest of the others who are darker. I do think that some people may be affected with this advertisement thinking that they’re not good enough and that they don’t fit in at all in the society since they’re not whiter. This judgement for skin colors should not be tolerated. I hope that one day this, I so called “Whiter is Better Mentality”, will come to an end.
